Bookkeeping, payables, receivables, and financial reporting for engineering and technical consulting firms, built around project profitability. Based in Houston, working across Texas.
No cost, no obligation, and you keep the findings either way.
Sample project profitability report
Period ending 07/31| Job | Billed | Contractor cost | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| BAY‑114 | $84,200 | $51,900 | 38.4% |
| HOU‑227 | $46,750 | $29,100 | 37.8% |
| GAL‑089 | $61,400 | $58,700 | 4.4%◀ |
GAL‑089 was your second‑largest job this period. It earned less than a job a third its size. Most consulting firms can't produce this report. That's the one we build.
Three things we hear on nearly every first call.
You paid thirty subject‑matter experts last year and can't say which projects earned money and which ones ate it.
The books close six weeks late, so every decision you make runs on a picture of the quarter before.
Revenue is up. Whether profit is up, nobody can tell you without a weekend in a spreadsheet.
The bookkeeping is the mechanism. Financial clarity and better decisions are the product.
Categorization, reconciliation, accruals, and a closed set of books every month, on a date you can plan around.
Money out and money in, handled end to end, so January isn't a scramble to find W‑9s.
Revenue and cost tracked by job, so margin is a number you look up rather than estimate.
Three tiers. Most firms your size land in the middle one.
Your exact fee depends on transaction volume and complexity, which we establish in the diagnostic before anyone signs anything. If you already have a bookkeeper and only need payables handled, that starts at $650 a month. Onboarding and any catch‑up work are quoted separately and up front, never discovered later.
Before we talk about working together, we look at what you already have and tell you what we find. You keep the findings whether or not you hire us.
A 15‑minute call to confirm we're a fit for each other.
You send read‑only access, or export four standard reports.
We spend 45 to 90 minutes in your books against a 12‑point checklist.
A written memo listing five specific problems with a dollar figure on each, walked through live in 30 minutes.
We're built for one kind of business and we're direct about it. If you're outside this, we'll tell you on the first call and point you somewhere better.
The questions that come up most.
Plenty of our clients did. Sometimes the right answer is that we take payables off their plate and leave the rest alone. That starts at $650 a month. Sometimes the diagnostic finds something that changes the picture. Either way you'll know more than you do now.
Your CPA files returns once a year. We keep the books clean the other eleven months so that filing is cheaper and faster. Most of our referrals come from CPAs for exactly this reason. We don't prepare returns and we don't want to.
No. We refer returns to CPA partners and payroll to established providers. Everything we do sits inside bookkeeping, payables, and reporting, and your engagement letter says so explicitly.
Most books we see are behind. Catch‑up work is quoted separately based on how many months are open and how complex they are, with half up front, and it's finished before the monthly engagement starts.
Most of our clients end up on a platform built for job‑level reporting, and the move is part of onboarding. If you'd rather stay on what you have, we'll work in your current system.
We're based in Houston and most of our clients are here or in Austin, but we work with firms anywhere in Texas.
Month to month, billed on the first by ACH. Thirty days' notice either way. We'd rather earn the next month than lock you into twelve.
Forty‑five minutes of our time, none of yours. Five findings with a dollar figure on each. Yours to keep.
